DAS ICH
- Das Innere Ich
Songs: 8 Time: 39:26
Das Innere Ich
is not your typical Das Ich album. Anyone who caught them
on their recent tour knows what style of music they are currently creating;
aggressive electro with a dash of peculiarity. Das Innere Ich was created as
the soundtrack for the film Das Ewige Licht. I will admit up front that, aside
from their live show, I had never had a chance to hear any of Das Ich’s music.
Judging from their live set, Das Innere Ich isn’t as brutal as their previous
work, but that’s understandable considering it is a soundtrack. Mikrokosmos
is a dark piece with orchestral stabs and rolling bass sequences that
immediately reminded me of music devised for a Hitchcock film. Das Innere
Ich has quite the opposite affect, taking on the sound of an imminent WWII
battle at sea. The final pair of tracks, Epilog and Bin Ich es Denn…,
stand apart from the remainder of this CD. Both of these tracks sound very much
like the songs they played in concert. Epilog is a pounding piece with
throbbing electro rhythms and semi-distorted drums; very aggressive and very
invigorating. Finally, Bin Ich es Denn… wraps things up with hard electronics,
unique breaks, eerie sequences and whispered lyrics. If these final two pieces
are reminiscent of the typical Das Ich style, than I better start picking up
some of their older material while I await the new CD.
