Teenagemakeup
is the second and latest single from Dance or Die's
Dehumanizer CD. Aside from containing 4 very different mixes of the
title track, this CD-5 also includes a CD-ROM video of Teenagemakeup.
The video, which really doesn't seem to make too much sense, shows footage of
everything from a young nun holding a newborn baby to Wagner covered in blood to
the entire band walking down a dismal looking street. The Original Mix
of Teenagemakeup is a straightforward Dance or Die track. If you're familiar
with their previous work then you'll see that this song fits nicely into the
musical niche' they've created. It's the three mixes that follow that really
threw me for a loop. The AWex Remix begins with a solid, techno sounding
beat, a pulsating rhythm, and hollow vocals. As the mix continues it becomes
even more techno-sounding with the addition of several new short sequences and
odd sounds as well as the near lack of vocals. The Four Ears Mix is more
tribal-techno aligned as it contains quickly cut short beats and more
atmospheric sequences. Lastly, the Nygard Mix takes Teenagemakeup and
transforms it into something between a KMFDM track and a Swamp
Terrorists piece. Crisp guitars meet hip-hop beats on this mix. Even
though all of the mixes are very different from one another, my favorites are
the original and the Nygard due to the fact that they both remain implanted in
the electro genre. If you've curious to hear Dance or Die mixed, as you've
never heard before, than this CD-5 is for you. On the other hand, if you'd
rather remain loyal to the staple Dance or Die sound, than this CD really isn't
necessary for you.
