CYBERSHADOW - The Birth of Future
Songs: 12  Time:  70:36
Cybershadow's debut CD, The Birth of Future, came quickly on the heels of their MCD, Social Conditioning.  The music on this CD runs the gamut of electro based tunes, yet all have a common element…strong melodies.  Let's begin with the end.  A hidden track lied deep within the 23-minute boundary of track 13.  This hidden (and untitled) piece is a delicate instrumental with swaying synths and nicely orchestrated melodies.  Ethereal at times, this composition shows that Cybershadow knows how to produce quality music that shines with delicacy and moodiness.  Scattered throughout this album are a trio of shorter pieces entitled 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Trimester.  Each of these impose a mood for the tracks that surround it, with the first being dark and ominous, the second being light and carefree, and the third being subtle and whimsical.  Third World begins with a short, German spoken sample and carries itself through with acrimonious lyrics about the harshness of living in third world countries.  Undoubtedly the catchiest track on The Birth of Future is Civilian Tank Dept.  On this piece the beats are dance floor friendly, the rhythms are tumbling, the sequences are melodic, and the vocals are altered just enough to make them 'industrial' sounding yet still understandable.  Don't Fear Your Future (Birth Mix) is a melodic Euro sounding piece with stabbing keys, untainted vocals, and a constant, rapid beat.  Leaning more towards chaotic electro, Shattered Trust (Birth Mix) combines a thumping, techno-styled beat with clanging sequences, and vocals that fall somewhere between synth-pop and rap.  Punk structured beats and vocals are the main components of Responsibility (Birth Mix).  Other interesting elements within this track are the sudden breaks and orchestral rumblings that accompany them.  The Birth of Future is an impressive release that shows that quite a lot of thought went into each piece.
