Visionary
is a 8 track MCD that contains 4 versions of the title track, 3
versions of Your Beautiful Lie, and one mix of Isabella. The
Minimalist Mix of Isabella revolves around a sequence that has a distinct
carousel feel to it. Mark’s melodic vocals are accompanied by a slight
orchestral synth pattern. After listening to it several times, I realized that
there is no percussion on this piece, which was just fine by me. The first mix
of Visionary (Bongo Club Mix) contains flat, wet percussion
partially comprised of a slow bongo beat. Also present are drifting sequences
and soothing vocals. As the track progresses, the music becomes more dense and
complex. The beat quickens and some various other mellow electronic elements
are introduced. The rhythm and percussion take over on the Extended Mix.
Mark does some interesting things with his vocals on this piece, such as making
them sound more distant and hollow. On the Prophetic Mix the rhythm
becomes more dense and deep sounding which works well beneath Mark’s raw vocals.
Your Beautiful Lie is a more upbeat piece and on the Red Sweater Mix
flowing sequences are laid underneath the choppy vocals, which smooth out on the
chorus. The quick beat on this mix is definitely dance friendly. The beat is
somewhat slower on David’s Groove 100 Mix and the vocals remain raw and
untreated. This piece is more atmospheric and laid back. On this MCD Mark
proves that he can be diverse in his musical taste and he has the courage to let
the world hear exactly what he can do.
