CONTROLLED FUSION - Incubation Time

Songs: 11  Time:  73:41

I'll start off with a quick warning:  If you already own the Hard / Cleopatra release of Controlled Fusion's Unnatural Causes CD, you may want to pass on Incubation Time as ½ of the tracks were taken from the earlier release.  OK, now onto the review. Steffen Schuhrke and Dennis Ostermann (a.k.a. In Strict Confidence) are the brianchildren behind Controlled Fusion.  Their approach to electro on Incubation Time differs from ISC releases in that there are more prominent melodies and less edgy rhythms.  Songs such as Geometrical Symbol and Reflecting Water are perfect driving songs in that that have a steady, tumultuous rhythms, jumpy synth lines.  Other tracks, such as Neutron Force and Conspiracy, have mellow / relaxed sequences and more laid back percussion elements.  The majority of the vocals sound forced and have a tinge of roughness to them due to the minimal effects that are placed upon them.  Impact - H 142 is an instrumental that has synth-pop styled sequences running a top of a multitude of various beats.  Samples are intertwined into the mix and add a certain sci-fi feel to the track.  You (listed as a bonus track) follows Controlled Fusion's more aggressive nature.  The beats are fast and furious, the sequences are chirpy, and the rhythm is steady and hard.  I'm not sure if Unnatural Causes was ever released in Europe and if it wasn't, Incubation Time is a great intro to this duo's music.  But for those of you living in North America, the import price tag that goes along with Incubation Time may make it not such a 'must own' CD.
