After nearly 8 years of silence, Keith Arem (aka
Contagion) resurfaces with Infectant. Released on his own
PCB Productions label, Infectant boasts 10 tracks of powerful electronic music
fused with rigid guitar work and angst-ridden vocals. A better title could not
have been chosen for this release. Not only is it a running theme throughout the
CD, but the music itself is most definitely infecting. From One of the
Chosen to Isolation, Infectant will pollute your mind, body, and soul
with fierce dance pieces crammed-packed with energy and intelligence. Whereas
Scratch was the hit song off of Contamination PCB,
Infectant contains a multitude of potential club / radio hits. The initial push
for a single seems to be Hate. This track, comprised of massive amounts
of pulsating electronics, choleric vocals, brash percussion, and gritty guitar
work, does immediately stand out. Upon further listening to the CD, I found
that the title track grabbed my attention even more so. Infectant has a
more intense beat, more erratic electronics, and better-utilized samples. This
on is well worthy of a spin at your local club. Pain is a slower, semi
trippy piece with cavernous guitar sounds, oscillating sequences, and Keith's
unique, untreated vocal work. A faster-paced piece, Crawl intertwines
brutal electronics and whispered vocals, weaving an intense web vivacious music.
If the addictive music wasn't enough, the limited edition of Infectant also
comes packaged with a bonus CD ROM, crammed with bonus tracks (including a remix
of Pain!), video interview footage, lyrics, and the video for Hate. Also, with
this bonus CD, you get exclusive access to some web goodies, including
downloadable songs and videos. Smartly packaged (with artwork by the phenomenal
Steven Gilmore) this CD will catch your eye and once you purchase this gem and
pop it into your player, you'll be infected for sure.
