CONSTRUGGLE TEST - Welfare Waste

Much like Axonal Warefare’s Statis Interrupted, Construggle Test’s Welfare Waste is a CD that got lost in the shuffle when Celtic Circle began to have problems.  It’s a shame too, because Welfare Waste is one of the best CDs I’ve heard in quite some time.  The brain behind Construggle Test, Mitch, is currently looking at several other labels to release this CD so hopefully it won’t be too long before it is properly released.  Welfare Waste consists of 11 percussion heavy tracks with beats that range from straight forward EBM to complex breakbreat.  Although it was recorded back in 1996, Welfare Waste easily stands up against the current flow of electronic releases and, musically, outshines many of them.  Dark rotating sequences begin Silent Rage along with ominous samples and an addicting beat.  This is a slower paced track that utilizes more atmospheric and pleasant sounding electronics.  On the opposite end of the spectrum is Injustice; a track that is driven by it’s hard EBM beats, crisp electronic sequences, and techno styled vocal samples.  My favorite track by far is Hostage which starts off with a cascading synth pattern and trippy beats before it kicks in with a more aggressive rhythm and somber vocals.  This piece doesn’t follow the typical chorus-refrain-chorus pattern, but implements the chorus into the mainframe of the song.  As the track approaches it’s finale it drastically changes and the music and samples become even more hostile before winding down.  Another distinct piece is Contradiction.  This piece adds moody electronics and simulated guitar sounds to a slow breakbeat.  Trail-Blazing is the one instrumental piece on the album.  On it, more techno influenced sequences are combined with rock hard beats and placed against a backdrop of clanging percussion.  Welfare Waste is a wonderful collection of danceable tracks that are both addicting and powerful.  Be on the lookout for it’s official release in the near future!
