Kube Musik is the follow-up to Conetik’s 2005, freshman release, Carbon Electriq V2 and comes to us via Infacted Recordings. Conetik’s sometimes light and airy version of synth-pop may not appeal to all fans of the electro genre as there are loads of catchy, poppy hooks and smooth vocals. Dive With Me was my the initial draw into Kube Musik. There’s a strong focus on the chorus hooks in this particular track which worked extremely well at keeping my interest, even making me bounce my head every once in awhile. Another winner is Try Not To Breathe. This smooth a light electronic piece wavers between IDM and synth-pop music where the vocals play the most prominent role. With it’s strong and steady beat and thick rhythm, Toxic falls more into the future-pop category. Cold Star (Dead Eye), which is also featured on the Infact1ion 1 compilation, is a strong dance piece with some heavier electronic elements that keep it more aligned with modern electro. The album rounds out nicely with Conekt’d (a techno injected electro track), Into the Night (a bouncy dance track), Feel the Cold (a vocally driven, bass heavy track), and Secrets and Sins (a slow, trotting synth-pop track.) With an album as solid and catchy as Kube Musik, Conetik will most likely garner its audience from the pool of Covenant and Apoptygma Berzerk fans.
