COBALT 60
- Twelve
Songs: 12 Time: 47:15
Twelve
by Cobalt 60 is not nearly as impressive as I had hoped it
would be. All of the songs are rather generic sounding, mixing guitar elements
together with mild electro, creating a hybrid of the coldwave style. Wail
begins with a rumbling beat, noisy guitars, and distorted sequences, but
from beginning to end the piece barely varies away from the initial structure or
sound. Rainbow Warrior has some nice sounding, cascading sequences and a
tripped out beat, but like Wail, there is little diversity within the piece. DeMeyer's
vocals drive 12 Months, a high-ended electro piece with throttling guitar
sounds and crisp sequences. Another trippy, break-beat styled beat can be found
behind Daylight Armed Robbery. This is one of the more interesting
tracks in that there are some musical / sound changes that make it more
innovative. A thick rhythm, fierce beats, and DeMeyer's unmistakable vocals are
the main elements of Dolphin, another track that does stand out amongst
the rest. A bit more chaotic in nature, N! borders on intelligent
electro without resorting to ambient or spacey sequences. Twelve really doesn't
tread any new ground and will probably only be admired by those who can't get
enough of DeMeyer. I think that if some of there tracks were doled out to
various other bands for remixes, they might be able to turn them around and make
them more interesting, but left 'as is' there really nothing to get too worked
up about.
