The Clay People
seemed to have disposed of nearly all of their electronic
equipment and opted to become more of a heavy metal band. Usually this would
turn me off immediately, but this new album is fantastic! It takes quite a lot
for me to be entertained by non electronic based music, but The Clay
People is put together so good that even I find myself grabbing it off
of the shelf quite frequently to give it another listen. Calling Spaceship:
Damien Grief is a hard and heavy track with live drums, raw vocals, and
intriguing guitar riffs. A natural break-beat is laid beneath a new version of
Mechanized Mind. On this version the vocals seem to be pushed more
towards the front and they contain much more energy and feeling. Raygun
Girls is driven by its expeditious beats, pulsing bass guitar, and rough
vocals. Car Bomb (Am I Human?) is a perfect example of hard, alternative
rock and it makes me wonder why bands like Gravity Kills find themselves
in heavy rotation on rock orientated radio stations and The Clay People do not.
This is a great, fast paced track with compelling vocals and monstrous beats.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT pass The Clay People up simply because
you heard that they've switched their musical styles. It's called development
and The Clay People have definitely developed into a strong band with equally as
strong compositions.
