Chaos Destiny
is the sample based project of Andy Brase (aka Piranha.) On this 8 track demo,
Piranha created some mind-fuck style pieces along with a few remixes. I do
admire what he did try to do with the remixes, but not having access to the
original DATs with the separated tracks does make it rather difficult to really
do a remix any justice. On his mix of VNV Nation's Chosen, Piranha
layers his own (or possibly stolen) beats and keys over top of the original,
while at the same time adding in some peculiar snippets of sampled dialogue.
Pulsing Terror Factory is a sample laden piece with a thick and hearty beat
and industro-noise styled sequences. The vocals on this particular track are
reminiscent Alien Sex Fiend meshed with Hocico…..weird indeed.
Dipping into the pool of Haujobb's Matrix samples,
Escape the Static (instrumental mix) is a slightly noisy track with a thick
rhythm that overpowers the rapid-fire beat in most portions of the track.
Overall, I would say that Chaos Destiny has some very interesting ideas, but
the tracks don't have much staying power. It's kinda the same way I view
Negativland…..it's interesting upon the first few listens, but beyond that
it really doesn't do much for me. Maybe with a bit more post production work to
clean it up Piranha could polish the original tracks up a bit. As far as the
remixes go, I believe that if he were to get his hands on some official,
separated original piece he could do something very interesting with them.
