Down and Out
is the latest release from Cat Rapes Dog. This 5 track
single features 2 mixes of the title track, as well as an alternate version of
Human and a pair of live tracks. The Mutilated Version of Down
and Out is a jumpy dance piece that features shared male / female vocals,
chirping synth sounds, gritty guitars, and a standard / simple beat. The other
version is heavier due to the throttling guitar elements, mangled beats, and
omission of the softer synth sounds. The remix of Human is a high caliber dance
piece with nicely programmed beat, soft female vocals, and a dense rhythm. The
two live tracks (Water and Moosehair Underwear) give the listener
an idea of the CRD live experience. On this pair of tracks you can hear slight
differences in the songs and the vocals aren't quite as clean and crisp as they
were on their respective albums. Whereas most CD singles contain a non-album
track or two, Down and Out manages to be equally as diverse with the inclusion
of these two tracks. Down and Out does feature a nice display of the various
facades that CRD are capable of exhibiting.
