Very harsh indeed. Not since NUMB has a
band been able to master elements of harsh grating noise with killer electro
industrial EBM like Carbon 12. Carbon 12 is the brainchild of Steve
Tushar, programmer and collaborator for Fear Factory among other noted
bands, and his intricate programming skills are evident throughout this album.
While the noise never overpowers the programming, it is clearly heard and
accentuates the music 100%. Starting with Solitude, a terrific EBM piece
with thick sequences, multiple keyboard lines, a pounding beat and grating
distorted guitar that works well with the music, the album begins the assault.
Liquid State is another great piece, with a rolling, mid-paced beat and
alternating evil sounding guitar and keyboard lines. Steve's vocals are
delivered in a harsh distorted whisper, adding a frightening and scraping
element to the already killer tunes. Parasite is a slower piece, but it
loses none of the previous noise and aggression and assaults you with about 100
beats in your face. Don't listen to this while angry...you'll be liable to kill
someone! Puncturing and Anti-Matters are both ultra hard dance
pieces both brimming with both angry dance beats and sequences along with white
noise-like guitar in the choruses. UPC takes that concept also, but puts
it through a meat grinder, being the hardest song on this volatile disc. Along
with all these noisy power EBM pieces, Steve throws in an interesting amount of
oddities, including the odd but scary Pressure, the noise ambient piece
Nonsense & Numerology, and a cover of the Talking Heads Burning
Down the House even! Another interesting note is that the track Rejected
Messiah was proposed for the Messiah video game, but was refused...jeez we
just CAN'T get a break! Oh well...Kudos to Steve for this angry, pounding,
grating release. Recommended.
