CANISTER
- Blame
Songs: 9 Time: 41:27
Canister’s
sound is a mixture of goth and electro. On Blame, Canister
deliver 9 tracks that are ripe with lighter musical elements. One Word
is a piece that pulls together somber vocals and melancholy music to produce a
subtle and airy composition that drifts along at a non threatening pace. The
vocal effects used throughout Light make the lead singer sound like he’s
attempting to sing with a mouth full of water. The music on this track has a
mid-eighties alt. rock feel to it that sounds like it was structured around the
work of The Cure. With the use of hard electronics and screeching guitar
work, Believe has a much more modern feel to it. The vocals still retain
their goth nature, but on this piece there is a bit more aggression added to
them. With Rapture and Truth, Canister once again takes their
music back in time to give it a mid-eighties feel. Ice, the final track,
is a light piece in which the music has a cylindrical sound to it by their use
of agile guitars, cascading beats, and hollow vocals. Canister utilizes some
nice melodic textures in some of their pieces, breathing a bit of life into what
could have turned out to be bland. If they do indeed play live in their
hometown, I imagine that they have a good following as their music manages to
mix some older, more recognizable styles together with some refreshing sounds.
