Breathe is the post Placebo Effect project of
A. Machens. On this four track demo, Machens proves that there is live after PE.
All four tracks present themselves with a similar dark feel as PE material, but
with the added diversity of some fresh sounds. One Million Miles was my
immediate favorite simply because it is the slowest and most moving piece. The
vocals are distinct and the music floats out of the speakers and fills the air
with a sense of serenity. Tenebre is the most dance friendly piece due to its
steady rhythm, clamorous sequences, and rapid beats. The Laughing Dolls is more
aligned with One Million Miles in that it is also a slower piece that could
tempt the goth crowd to meander their way to the dancefloor. Lastly, Fallen
Angel is a mid-paced piece with gruff, yet nearly whispered vocals, a
uninterrupted beat, sublte guitar sounds, and simplistic, yet addicting synth
patterns. If you're were/are a fan of the Placebo Effect style than you're not
really in for too much of a change. The only real difference is the fresh
variety of sounds used and the fact that these pieces are not quite as complex.
