BRAVE NEW WORLD
- Winter
Songs: 6 Time: 20:30
The US synth-pop trio known as Brave New
World return in ’98 with a new, extended CD single entitled Winter.
As you may, or may not, remember IB was taken by their last single,
Regret. On Winter we find many of the same musical elements that make
Brave New World stand apart. A combination of sweeping melodies, forceful
rhythms, crystal clear and clean vocals, light acoustical guitar work, and hard
techno influenced beats come together on the shortened, Frozen Liquid / Radio
mix. Following that we are treated to a tech-step, drum & bass
reworking, entitled the Drum & Steep mix. On this version the
rhythms and beats are pushed forward in the mix, the vocals are limited to
snippets of the chorus, and the remainder of the musical elements are either
omitted or limited to the background, making this track more accessible for the
typical club goer. Heading in a totally different direction, the Acoustic
mix is just that, a beatless track whose only two elements are the vocals
and an acoustic guitar. Aside from the 4 versions of Winter two other mixes are
also added in. The first, Hypocritical World (Disbelief mix), has a bit
of a retro feel to the music with the addition of a backing electric guitar.
0809 (Unity mix) is a shorter, slightly darker piece with a dense rhythm,
trippy beats, and Cure-esque guitar work. With the US synth-pop scene on
the rise, Brave New World display their ability to keep the sound fresh and
non-standardized.
