BLACK LUNG - The Disinformation Plague
Songs: 13  Time: 67:26
Black Lung is just one of many side projects by D. Thrussell of Snog fame.  Originally released in early 1996, The Disinformation Plague has just recently been domesticated by the US’s own Metropolis Records.  Unlike Snog, Black Lung’s music is more textural and slightly ambient in nature.  The Disinformation Plague contains 13 instrumentals that each give off the feeling of moving within the circuits of a computer as data rotates all around you.  Throughout the album there are many ‘bleeping’ sounds laid over top of a subtle, almost hidden beat.  The title track is the first example of this style of music.  While the percussion on Sinister Control Minority is increased and enhanced, various bleeps and drones still swirl about amongst an array analogue sounding sequences.  The Alien Controllers features a more gabba styled beat and some 303 sounds mixed in with spacey sound effects.  Returning to a less beat orientated style, Beenan Orden is made up of a mild, broken beat and subtly entrancing sequences that give the impression of drifting through space.  Continuing on the journey through space, The Self-Appointed Olympian utilizes orchestral elements and soundtrack styled sequences that slowing build to give the impression of a climax that never happens.  The three part Unconvincing Simulations of Happiness begins with a six minute pulsating ambient piece that ebbs and flows, ever so slowly gaining strength as it gives way to the second part.  On this more soundtracky part, a definite feeling of progression is given off as a high end sequence slowly gets louder and louder before fading out and making way for a sound that resembles the distorted combination of waves crashing against the shore and hurricane force winds.  This joining of sounds creates the third, and final, part of this track.  It is amazing how different and unique all of Thrussel’s projects sound.  With Black Lung he creates a entirely new dimension in sound that is sure to please.
