COP Int'l was lucky (and smart) enough to get
their hands on the well out of print, early material of Birmingham 6. Resurrection
is a compilation of Birmingham 6 material that originally was unleashed
back in the early to mid 90's, combined with a few never before released mixes.
These were the B-6 tracks that really turned me onto their sounds and it is
genuinely refreshing to hear them again. Machine driven rhythms, brash beats,
forceful vocals, and compulsive samples riddle each track, compelling the
listener to continue listening, just to see what they'll do next. Pulled from
their Israel MCD, Israel, This Girl, and Sweet 17
were some of the earliest tracks in which B-6 assaulted their listeners with
a sound like no other. Contagious was an instant European club hit when
it was released in 1993. The following year B-6 followed up with All Around
the Watchtower, Mindhallucination, Who Do You Love, and
Radicals; all of which contained infectious rhythm programming, and
tumultuous beats. The pair of Policestate mixes (twisted and mutilated
by STR) takes the original B-6 sound and adds in the riveting break-beat style
of STR's own project at the time, the Swamp Terrorists. The two
unreleased Razormaid! mixes are extended versions of the original,
digitally re-edited by Razormaid! for club play worldwide. Resurrection is a
great way to discover the inception of B-6 and am even better way to initiate
yourself into the vigorous compositions that they created.
