BIOPSY - Third Stroke

Straight off the heels of their last LP, Biopsy pick up right where they left off with Third Stroke.  This record is a bit more accessible than the last one, and has a more solid feel to it.  The album kicks right off with Leech, an angry song filled with everything imaginable in EBM...a straightforward dance beat, breakbeats galore, snippets of noise, distorted vocals, the trademark guitar samples, haunting strings, wet sequences....this song has an albums worth of material on it!  Following that is Hypervent, a decidedly more techno-fied song, but brimming with angst all the same, and featuring the best sound ever, a loud-ass cheezy techno beep that hurts your ears...yes!  The rest of the album carries on in much the same direction, with some more stand outs, such as the great chorus in Body Wire, the Re-Birth acid sounds fluttering around in Disgust, a track that starts as an almost ambient breakbeat piece before shifting gears into a stomping EBM frenzy, and the slow, melodious and almost emotional Confined.  These young lads have a flair for innovation with their sound that brings some much needed refreshment into the genre.  The only disappointment are the 3 mixes by Negative Format, Dead Jump, and Idiot Stare.  These mixes are very bland, and don't hold much attention to themselves.  The bands apparently tried to utilize Biopsy's unique sound, but failed in doing so.  Worry not, though, the rest of the album (10 songs) are good enough to keep you dancing...or moshing...it's hard to tell with these guys...
