BEHIND THE SCENES
- Homeless
Songs: 11 Time: 53:31
Well, up until this release I really liked
everything Bloodline had put out. I think the main reason I was not overly
impressed with Homeless was due to the simple fact that it didn't
live up to its hype. Maybe I'm pigeonholing here, but I was under the
impression that Behind the Scenes was gonna be a more electro oriented
release. Instead, Behind the Scenes' music is more goth rock with just a tinge
of electronics in the mix. I can see how this may be a more popular release,
simply because its much more accessible than most underground Euro 'industrial'
acts. Homeless has un-endless crossover potential, mainly because it's more
laid back and refined. Even though two of the three members are credited as
'programmers', the guitar sounds overwhelm and smother out most of the
electronic elements. The guitar usage, while predominant, is not gritty and
roughed up. Actually, both the lead and bass guitar sounds used in a mild
manner, yet they are still pushed to the forefront of the mix. The vocals are
delivered in your standard undistorted, goth nature. Melrow does have a good
voice, but there is nothing outstanding about the way he uses it. Unlike many
musicians, I would never be able to recognize his vocals in a song that I didn't
already know he was singing on. Aside from the sub-par vocal delivery, Behind
the Scenes really needs to mix their tracks a bit differently and unleash those
backing synth sounds. I know they are there and from what I can tell, they are
good. If Behind the Scenes wants to stand-out among the droves of other
darkwave, gothic acts they really need to work on a unique style, otherwise
they're likely to fade into oblivion.
