BEEFCAKE
- Coincidentia
Oppositorum
Songs: 16 Time: 62:02
The German duo of Beefcake return in
2000 with their 2nd full length, Coincedentia Oppositorum.
Branching away from their break-beat driven debut, Beefcake strike out with even
more erratic sampling and unpredictable beat structures. Granted, there are
plenty of breaks found within this recording, but with each new track Beefcake
play on the randomness factor, surprising the listener with each new addition,
be it a sampled vocal snippet or a full on set of breaks. Not one portion of
this CD is predictable, as Beefcake keeps its listeners on their toes. Wildly
variable, any of these 16 untitled tracks, will undoubtedly peak your interest
as you anticipate their next move. In addition there are several points on the
album where Beefcake opt to slow things down a bit and take a more IDM appriach
to their song structures. Such is the case with track 8, a moderately paced
track with some harmonious woodwind and string sounds. Coincedentia Oppositorum
is most definitely groundbreaking material and should pave the way for future
acts. In an industry suddenly thriving on mediocre, 'noise' acts, Beefcake have
the insight and knowledge to create music unlike any other, giving them an edge
over the rest.
