And One
never fails to disappoint and with Wasted they've created yet
another club smasher. Not only is the title track a worthwhile composition, but
each of the three (!) bonus cuts are equally as impressive. Let's begin with
Forever J. This track features smooth synths, a wafting beat, and melodious
vocals. A new addition to the And One crew is Tante Annelie. Tante brings a
soothing touch to the And One sound with her euphonic vocal style. Her
whimsical vocals are more apparent on Forever J than any one of the other
tracks, especially during the bridges when her crooning chants bring a slight
feeling of ecstasy to the piece. Of the pair of mixes of Wasted, I
prefer the Naghavi-mix simply because it is a bit longer and reworked in
such fashion as to entice people to dance floor. With a thumping beat, slightly
humorous lyrics and that staple, warped And One synth sound, Wasted will not
dissatisfy any true And One fan. The remaining two track, Lawrence of Arabia
and Maschinhimmel are both short instrumentals that most likely would
have been album tracks, complete with lyrics but for whatever reason did not
make the cut. Maschinhimmel is more up-front and beat-orientated, while
Lawrence of Arabia is a beat less piece that is much more laid back. Even
though the complete running time of this single is a bit shorter than I like,
the quality of the music on it makes up for it twofold. And One fans rejoice.
Wasted proves that their next full length shall not be any less powerful as
their previous albums.
