AGHAST VIEW - Truthhead
Songs: 14  Time:  71:53

Truthhead was originally a collection of remixes from Aghast View's sophomore LP Carcinopest that was offered inside a metal ammo box with a shirt and poster for $150, and had a second disc of mixes, covers, and new tracks. Keeping with the spirit of "limited editions" and still wanting to release this stuff for under a billion dollars for the general public, Gashed! releases the first disc here. All I can say is...damn. Even thought the total number of different original tracks here is 4, each song remains completely different, especially all the Truthlike's. Neuroactive add their diffinitive synthpop/industrial efforts here, churning out a big beat, yet somewhat lighter version of the song here. I have to say, Funker Vogt's mix is the best song here. FV take the already lethal EBM song, keep the huge beat and make it LOUDER, and add their trademark dancy keys and programming, making it an angry eletrohead's dream. Aghast View hold their own here, too, with 2 remixes that re-define the songs totally, and become essentially 2 new tracks that still contain their quirky yet hard, melodious yet headbanging style. A new song is added, Groundzero and its accompanying mix are full of fast paced industrial dance beats, wicked synth patterns, and fluttery chords and noises. It seems everyone in the band sings, too, as Fabricio's death metal growls intertwine with the other's low ended drones. In Strict Confidence appear here, turning Truthlike into a song I can honestly say as being both AV and ISC at the same time: big beats, epic strings, and loud vox. Finally, and most intriguingly, Wumpscut and New Mind do something strange. Wumpscut's mix is strangely out of place. The fast beats and tumultuous sequences of Truthlike are replaced with a subtle breakbeat and drones in the background. It's not bad, especially with the awesome vocal distortion that sounds like a satanic computer, but...it just doesn't fit here. New Mind make an awesome song...not a mix though, as absolutely no part of Payoff remains intact, not even the vocals. Oh well, the "mix" is peppered with trademark Sharp synthlines, and rumbling breakbeat and lovely strings. Why bother to mix a song if all you're gonna' do is make a different track and masquerade it around as a mix? Unusual behavior for Jonathan. Ah well, this disc is supoib! Get it and beat each other up with angry EBM
