THE AGGRESSION
- Pure Liquid Ego
Songs: 16 Time: 73:51
Pure Liquid Ego
is basically a remix CD, but with the added bonus of 4 new tracks (produced by
Urania's George Hagegeorge.) Of the 4 new tracks, Missionary Man
is the most outstanding. Although guitars are used on this piece, The
Aggression still allows the thick electronics to shine through. Beautiful
Losers has an ever-so-slight gothic feel to it, mainly due to some of the
darker guitar sounds. Urged onward by metal guitars and rap-styled vocals,
Hey! is a thick and belligerent track. Gearing itself more towards speed
metal, Cross combines fast-paced trip-hop beats with crunchy guitars and
semi distorted vocals. One interesting note about these 4 tracks is the fact
that they are all somewhat blended together, making a 15-minute collage of
various musical styles. Eric Powell (16 Volt) remixes Cross into a more
guitar heavy piece. He also manages to push the vocals all the way forward,
making them much more prominent than in the original. The El Flaco Mix
of the same song is a much more diverse mix. Sublte piano sounds are layered
upon the gruff vocals and slowed down beats. Airily (Aspyxia), mixed by
Cydonia, is one of the weirder tracks. The vocals on this track are
uniquely distorted and sound as if they've been recorded while submerged in a
pool of JelloŽ . Shikhee of Android Lust remixes Dishelved Star
and turns it into an intelligent dance piece with dense sequences and sluggish
beats. Surprisingly enough the I, Parasite remix of Hey! does retain
some of the original guitar work. I, Parasite put a slight echo effect on the
vocals and add some static to the beats. Arena (98-Revelation Mix) is
one of the more electronically orientated tracks on this CD. This version,
mixed by Crocodile Shop, contains wet sequences, hollow beats, and
reverberating vocals. Some of the other remix talent found on this disc
includes Wayne Hussey, Murder-DK, Salvo, The 4th Level, and
EyeAmGod. Compared to The Aggression's first full length, Pure Liquid
Ego is much strong, partially due to the remixer's ability to transform the
pieces into fresh new works of art. While this CD is nothing to get too excited
about, it still serves as a way to hear how various bands can manipulate the
sounds of fellow musicians.
