A2D - Gesture of Despair
Songs: 9  Time:  58:18

A2D's sound is eclectic at best.  Sometimes wandering into the realm of synth-pop, at other times thrusting itself into the heavier / near metal side of industrial and even taking a stab at electronica, A2D's style rarely grows stale.  Reflection sports an aquatic rhythm, non-effected vocals, raw beats, and colliding guitar riffs.  During the chorus the vocals become thicker as does the music, giving this track an edgier feeling.  From the sampled answering machine from Swingers to the ethereal vocal and light piano ending, Three Days is one track that contains a bit of everything.  Noise elements, hip-hop beats, rough vocals, murky guitars, and collapsing synth lines all join together on this erratic, yet catchy piece.  The title track, Gesture of Despair, begins with an intense trance / electronica feeling and then plunges into darker territory with enigmatic samples and a few heavier electronic elements.  I would be more then pleased if the entire album was comprised of pieces such as this one. On Rift, I get the feeling that I'm listening to an electronic version of a Cure track at times, mainly due to the smothered, light vocals and the wafting sequences.  There are certain areas within this 9 ½ minute piece where the pace picks up and the track becomes a bit fleshier.  While I do like the two contrasting musical elements within this track, I would have preferred if A2D had separated them into two different pieces.  Help To Forget is a slower, atmospheric piece that utilizes the vocals as the main instrument.  On this particular track we can surmise that Steve does indeed have a great voice, which is sometimes rare in this genre of music.  Certain parts of this track really kick in, throwing the listener for a bit of a loop, before idling back down.  For an unsigned demo, A2D's Gesture of Despair's overall sound quality is top-notch, as is the music itself.  Shop it around a bit Steve!  You shouldn't have much trouble finding a good home for A2D!
